Mary, Mother Of God

Hail, Holy Mother, who gave birth to the King, who rules heaven and earth for ever. ~Today's Entrance Antiphon

Happy 2012!

I hope that the new year is off to a great start and that today as we celebrate our Mother, you are feeling refreshed in your role as mother.

From the Saintly Silver Etsy site

Have you seen Saintly Silver's softies?  These dolls are so cute!  I was actually introduced to the dolls in our pew at our last church when some wonderful people, who would become great friends, sat down next to us.  Their daughter had this same Mary doll.  On the back is the Hail Mary prayer.  And since then, St. Anne, St. Clare, and St. Isabel of Portugal have arrived in our house (via shoes on St. Nicholas day if I remember correctly).  And I have a strong suspicion that St. Victoria may arrive via Easter basket this year.  There are tons of saints to choose from on the site, but if they don't have the particular saint you are looking for, you can work with them to create a new doll.  I happen to know that St. Nicholas had to go through this process with our St. Isabel doll and he told me that it was such a pleasure to do work with Saintly Silver.  Because all of these dolls are custom made, you do need to allow some time for delivery, but Easter is still a few months away.  So, today, in honor of Our Lady, I am giving away one Mary softie!  Just leave a comment between now and Jan. 6th, letting me know what your favorite title/image of Mary is.  We are big fans of Our Lady of Guadalupe in our house.  I'll announce winners for this, and all of the giveaways, on Jan. 8th.

Prayers for a blessed 2012!

  1. Oh my... that is absolutely adorable. My favorite image of Our Lady is the Madonna of the Streets. I have a beautiful picture in my kitchen. I also have the image on the face of my watch. There are so many that I love! +JMJ+

  2. Ok, so apparently I am going to learn a LOT through your giveaway. I didn't know that Mary, Mother of Jesus, had so many names/poses (and didn't know who Our Lady of Guadalupe was until I started teaching RE... boy am I a cradle Catholic). I have now learned that I have the Madonna of the Streets in my home, but have such powerful memories of both of my Grandmother's having Our Lady of Grace statues, that I would say that is my favorite. I am totally going to have this conversation with my mother, Mary. And how cute are those dolls! My Goddaughters are going to be so glad that I started to read your blog!

  4. Those are sooo cute! I'm totally ordering some for our God children! My favorite Mary image is one I recently saw in Rome of her nursing Jesus. It's similar to the 2nd one on this webpage. http://happycatholic.blogspot.com/2008/12/you-keep-using-that-word-i-do-not-think.html

  5. I love these!! I still am i the process of getting them for my kids. I am not sure which is my favorite image of Mary. I love nativity sets and I have one in particular that I LOVE. It is Mary holding baby Jesus while she is sitting on a donkey and Joseph is standing next to her. So I think that i probably one of my favorite images. I like seeing Mary as a mother holding her infant child. I feel humbled when I see that. :)

Our Lady of La Leche - our family went there on a mini-pilgrimage over the summer.

Madonna of the Streets - just beautiful!

L'Innocence - it is the image I include with all my rosaries because I think it is so pretty.

  13. And mine is Our Lady Of Lourdes. I love Saintly Silver's softies and I've gotten a softie for practically every baby/toddler I know in Church. I hope they keep it close to them all the way :)
